Our joint artistic director Mike Tweddle (2007-16) has been appointed artistic director of Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol.
Mike said, 'I am delighted to be joining Tobacco Factory Theatres. It's an exciting opportunity to offer my ideas and passion in leading one of the UK's most ambitious and atmospheric venues.'
Paul O'Mahony will continue as artistic director of Out of Chaos, a role he has shared with Mike since they founded the company in 2007. Future plans include further touring for Unmythable and Macbeth as well as two new productions opening next year. 'This is a really busy time for Out of Chaos and I'm very excited to be taking on the challenge. Mike and I have had a wonderful time working together for the last 9 years and he's going to do an excellent job in Bristol.'
Mike added, 'I'm tremendously proud of what Paul and I have achieved with Out of Chaos, which has grown into one of the UK's most prolific touring companies. With the collaboration of many brilliant artists and organisations, we've created original plays and performed them in hundreds of theatres around the world. I can't wait to see the exciting direction the company will be taking in the coming years.'
Although leaving his day-to-day post, Mike will stay involved with Out of Chaos in various ways. For the time being, we wish him all the very best in Bristol!
Work begins on new project!
We've started work on our new project - a version of the Aeneid with the working title Crossing the Sea. This has been made possible by support from the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington DC, the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama, and The Oxford Playhouse.
We've had an amazing first week of R&D, culminating in a sharing that yielded lots of interesting ideas. We'll be taking the next steps in the Spring, with first full performances planned for early 2019. It's an even bigger and bolder show than usual, and we can't wait to share it with you all!
